How to setup child pricing for your property

Offering child pricing helps tailor your rates to families and guests traveling with children. If you'd like to set this up for your property, follow the steps below.

Request child pricing

⚠️ Important: If you're using an external interface to manage your pricing, there may be limitations on how many child brackets you can configure. Our support team will review this with you before enabling anything.

To get started, email us at [email protected] and let us know that you’d like Child Pricing enabled and which age brackets you would like.

You can choose any combination of child age groups, for example:

  • 0–4 years

  • 5–12 years

  • 13–16 years

You can use one, two, or all three brackets—or even customise the age ranges to suit your needs.

Child pricing vs. infant pricing: key differences

Learn the key differences between infant pricing and child pricing. With infant pricing, infants aren’t counted towards a room’s occupancy limit, while child pricing includes infants if you choose. Here’s how they work and when to use each.

⚠️ Important: If you're using an external system to manage your pricing, child pricing needs to be set up in your channel manager or PMS—it will then feed into the IBE automatically. Infant pricing works a little differently and can be configured directly within the IBE, without needing to come from an external system.

Infant pricing

  • Occupancy Calculation: Infants are assumed to use a cot, so they’re not counted toward the room’s occupancy.

  • Setting the Infant Price: Infant pricing requires one default rate that applies across all rooms where infants are allowed.

  • Like child pricing, an age range is required for infant pricing. For example:

    • 0-2 years

    • This would mean any infant aged 0-2 years would not be counted towards a room's occupancy.

Note: Infant pricing can be set as free of charge, if you’d prefer not to charge for infants.

Room setup example

For instance, in a family room with:

  • Min Adults: 2

  • Max Adults: 3

  • Max Occupancy: 5

  • Infants: 2

A guest can book 3 adults, 2 children, and 2 infants. The infants do not count towards maximum occupancy.

Child pricing

  • Child Bands and Occupancy: Child pricing uses flexible age bands (for example, 3–12 years) and is included in the room’s occupancy count.

  • If you prefer infants to count towards your room’s total occupancy, create a child pricing band for that age group (for example 0-5 years).

  • Setup Flexibility: You can adjust the age ranges or enable one, some, or all child brackets by contacting support.

🤓 Tip: We recommend using child pricing with designated child bands alongside the default infant price.

Add children to a Room/Rate

Once child pricing is enabled for your property, you can easily add children to specific rooms or rates. Here’s how to set it up.

Add child pricing to a room

  1. Click Booking Engine.

  2. Go to Manage Rooms and click List Rooms.

  3. Find the room you want to update and click Edit.

  4. Open the Occupancy tab.

  5. Select the child pricing age brackets you'd like to apply to this room.

  6. If you have more than one age bracket set up, just select the relevant ones for this room.

  7. Click Save Changes.

Add child pricing to a rate

⚠️ Important: For externally managed rates, pricing must be added via your Channel Manager or PMS.

For internally manages rates, follow these steps to add child pricing directly:

  1. Go to Booking Engine.

  2. Go to Rates & Packages and click Browse Rates.

  3. Next to the rate you want to edit, click Prices.

  4. Enter the price for each child band that applies to the room.

  5. If the rate type is per room, enter 0 if you don't want to charge extra for children. This will still allow guests to include children in their booking.

  6. Click Save Changes.

Once pricing is set, guests searching for availability will see the option to add children during the booking journey, if the room allows it.
